Patient & Caregiver Resources - Delirium

Delirium is a confusional state that develops quickly (over a period of hours or days). It causes dramatic changes in a person’s thinking, behaviour and mood. It is usually caused by an illness or a reaction to medications. It is a serious condition that is more common among older people. If the underlying cause is not diagnosed or treated quickly, the risk of permanent disability or death is high.*
