Community Support Services - Caregiver Respite: In-Home in South East Ontario

Description of Service

There are various ways to help a regular caregiver, who is often a family member, to have a break or do some things for themselves. These are called Caregiver Respite services, and one of the services is called In-Home service.

Many community-based Provider Organizations (Providers) offer In-Home programs services which bring someone to a person's home to provide help with needed services (e.g. personal care) and allow a regular family caregiver to take a break.

If a person is eligible for services co-ordinated by the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), Caregiver Respite: In-Home services are paid for by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Otherwise, these services may be available from various Providers, in which case there is likely to be a consumer fee for these services.

Eligibility

The process for arranging care is different for each of the Community Support Services. Contact the local Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) to find out the process for each of the service options and whether someone is eligible for the government-funded services.

If the CCAC deems someone ineligible to receive government-funded services, or if someone wishes to make their own arrangements, they may apply to the Provider Organization directly.
