Community Support Services - Caregiver Respite: Adult Day in South East Ontario

Description of Service

There are various ways to help a regular caregiver, who is often a family member, to have a break or do some things for themselves. These are called Caregiver Respite services, and one of the services is called Adult Day service.

Many community-based Provider Organizations (Providers) offer Adult Day programs which provide social and other therapeutic activities for a person requiring care at a location outside of their home. Programs usually include planned recreation and physical activities, meals, transportation to the program and some personal care.

There can be a consumer fee for this service to cover the meals and transportation costs (approximately $15 to $50 per day). Subsidies may be available.

Eligibility

The process for arranging care is different for each of the Community Support Services. Contact the local Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) to find out the process for each of the service options and whether someone is eligible for the government-funded services.

If the CCAC deems someone ineligible to receive government-funded services, or if someone wishes to make their own arrangements, they may apply to the Provider Organization directly.
