Personal Care & Support
Description of Service
Many community-based Provider Organizations (Providers) provide Personal Care & Support services which refer to a range of essential daily activities that help maintain a senior's physical well-being. A staff person visiting someone's home can help with: | Personal hygiene care such as washing and bathing, mouth care, hair care, preventative skin care, routine hand or foot care | | Transferring or positioning into chairs, vehicles or beds | | Dressing and undressing | | Assistance with eating | | Assistance with toileting | | Escorting you to appointments | The staff (sometimes called Personal Support Workers, Health Care Aides, Personal Care Workers or Attendants) can assist with activities, or help to ensure a person's safety while they complete the activities themselves.
Eligibility
The process for arranging care is different for each of the Community Support Services. Contact the local Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) to find out the process for each of the service options and whether someone is eligible for the government-funded services.
If the CCAC deems someone ineligible to receive government-funded services, or if someone wishes to make their own arrangements, they may apply to the Provider Organization directly.
