What are Community Support Services?

For seniors with moderate care needs who prefer to stay at home, Community Support Services provide flexible and practical solutions. These services can be offered in someone’s home or at other locations within the community. Services can be obtained individually or in combination.

Who provides Community Support Services?

Community Support Services are delivered by a variety of sources including:

a) Provider Organizations
b) Volunteers within your community
c) Community Centres
d) Family and friends

Who funds Community Support Services?

Home and community support services are funded by various sources, including:

a) Government (provincial and/or municipal)
b) Donations to voluntary organizations (who often deliver these types of services)
c) Private insurance or benefit plans (e.g. private health insurance)
d) Individuals (e.g. by purchasing services privately)

How do I Arrange to Receive Community Support Services?

The process for arranging care is different for each of the Community Support Services.

The Community Care Access Centre can always help someone find a Provider Organization and answer questions about the steps in the process of arranging care.
 
Some Community Support Services are government-funded, others are not. Eligibility is based on a number of different factors including someone’s needs and circumstances. 

Anyone can apply to a Community Support Services Provider Organization directly to make their own arrangements at their own expense.
